This site came about as a project for the University of Canberra’s “Networked Media Production” unit in 2009. The theory behind the project came about in regards to the existence of Online Worlds and how players of these games share a common enthusiasm for the world in which they play. Friendships are forged, experiences are shared and good times are had, creating a virtual community that is bonded by the game, and more specifically, the world in which it exists.

As the past has shown us with games such as “Tabula Rasa”, there comes a time where these worlds cease to exist, and that everything that has come from the world slowly decays as well. Kinship pages go offline, forums bleed dry and eventually all the player is left with is the memories of the time spent in that world.

Preserve Middle-earth will act as a “Heritage Site” of sorts, with an aim to archive locations, events and the people of Lord of the Rings Online, with a goal of implementing stories, video and photos to share the experiences that we have all shared in our virtual Middle-Earth

Unless specifically noted, all images were taken by myself, Poster Idol, and are available in a searchable format via the Flickr Page.
