The Shire

The Shire

The Shire is a rural area, full of freshly sown crops, the smell of baked pies in the air and the sound of merry hobbits singing and dancing (and often complaining). But The Shire is also under the shadow of troubling times, as players who begin their journey as a Hobbit will soon discover.  Brigands have moved in to the Green Hill country,  the marshes seem more treacherous than ever and a mysterious black rider has been scouting the area asking questions about a Hobbit names “Baggins”.

Although the Shire may have its troubles, its hard not to come here and find yourself taking your time fishing from the Brandywine river, or helping out the local Hobbits by delivering their mail or keep prized pies from the eyes of the hungry hobbits.

The Shire has many small communities including Scary, Stock, Woodhall and Waymeet, but is has two main locations that players will often visit in their travels across Middle-earth.

Michel Delving

Michel Delving is the starting area for low level hobbits, but its not uncommon to see high level characters spending time in Michel Delving due to the close proximity of places like the Auction and training halls, the local bard and the lovely outdoor crafting area, with the worlds only superior oven for players skilled enough to have use of them for their cooking vocation.

Michel Delving is the chief township of the Shire, on the White Downs of the Westfarthing. The Mayoral Seat of the Shire, Michel Delving is home to the offices of the Mayor and the bounders, the only Auction House in the Shire, the only Training Hall for class trainers, and is proud to host the Mathom House operated by the Mathom Society.

Hobbiton

One of the first places players will look for in The Shire is a small village east of Michel Delving called Hobbiton, and it is in this village that they will find a home called Bag End, previously owned by Bilbo Baggins, but currently resided by the Sackville Baggins’.  The Sackville Baggins have their own quests for the new player which will see them travelling across the Shire.

Festival Grounds

Below Bag End is the Party Tree, where players will often find celebrations being held during the many festivals during the year.  Dancing, pie eating and of course, the Inn leagues infamous pub crawl which will leave many drunken hobbits making mad dashes between the Shires many pubs.
